Healthy eating tip: Use avocados as a butter substitute in baking. Ounce for ounce, avocados have 150 fewer calories and 18.5 fewer grams of fat than butter. Plus, avocados, unlike butter, are brimming with healthful monounsaturated fat, fiber and other essential nutrients. While using avocados in a dessert recipe might sound odd, intrepid researchers set out to discover whether they could use pureed avocado in place of butter in cookies without impacting their taste. Turns out, the avocado cookies were softer, chewier and less likely to crumble than the ones made with butter. If you’re still wary, swap out just half of the butter in your recipe for pureed avocado. Or use it in savory treats, like zucchini or pumpkin bread.

Oklahaven “Have-A-Heart” 2012

As we head into February, our offices are starting our annual “Have-A-Heart” fundraiser for Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center. Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center is a non-profit organization that has been treating sick and disabled children back to their full potential in health for 50 years. Their objective is to provide chiropractic care for children and to educate in a natural, drug-free lifestyle.

During the month of February, we will be accepting donations for the Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center. If you have a friend or family member who needs chiropractic care, this is the perfect opportunity to help them as well! For your donation of $35.00 or more, they will receive a free consultation, exam, and x-rays as a new patient.
